Wow! The power just went off (and back on). Tornado siren going off… hmm….
We awoke to find the Regency Room again fully stocked. This time with fresh fruit, yogurt, coffee, tea, muffins, and ham. Vacation mode has fully set in with the luxury of being well fed in a carefree, warm place! We headed out to visit my aunts and uncles in Moorpark. We had a blast hanging out with my Uncles, Aunts, Grandma, and my cousin Adrina! She was running around preparing last minute details for her wedding and the rehersal. I haven’t seen my cousins since I was probably about 7 years old. I very vividly remember my last visits to California as a child. They are some of my fonder childhood memories. It’s strange to have gone all this time not seeing my cousins who I remember having so much fun with! Adrina and Ashurina have blossomed into a gorgeous young women.
After visiting we hit up a clothing store to try and find some fancy dresses for Rachel. Earlier today my Dad had gone and bought 3 loud, Italian shirts for the trip. He was so stoked about them! Nothing seemed to fit perfectly enough for Rachel’s slender body without having to get it tailored. Time, unforunately, was not a luxury we had so we passed up on the opportunity and went to the rehersal dinner. Aunts, Uncles, cousins, and soon to be family was in full force. I had a blast talking to everyone, drinking wine, eating appetizers, and observing people.
Afterwards we all went back to the Hyatt to find a huge Reggae party going on in our courtyard! we went and watched for a bit, drank some more.
Sleep comes as a necessity at this point. Talk to you all tomorrow.
Going on trips with my family is always a big production. We have to constantly be hurried to “make it on time.” We were plenty early this time making it to the airport but to no avail; the plane was delayed. Delayed so much that we were technically supposed to miss our connection flight out of St. Louis. Luckily, this day and this day alone, we were important enough to hold up the connection flight for a whole 45 minutes! Our flight being delayed changed flight patterns and flight times for the rest of the day! Try that for impact.
I feel bad for the people on our connection flight having to board on time, also having to rush, just to end up sitting in their cramped plane seats for an extra crummy 45 minutes. No vouchers for anyone, no free lunches, no bumping up to the non-existant first class on Southwest Airlines. I was pleasantly surprised to find out our luggage made the transfer. I was having visions of Gaylord Faucher opening his returned luggage to find it switched with a bag of women’s underwear. Another stroke of luck for our day of importance.
Having stayed up until stupid o’clock in the morning, I completely slept throught the flight to St. Louis. Our flight from St. Louis to LAX proved to be much more entertaining. I was seated next to a man in his early to mid fourties. He was wearing a baseball cap, a grungy t-shirt, tattered and tapered jeans, and dirty high tops. He also had a beard and two tear drops tatooed under his left eye. I was a little nervous to say the least. His daughter, who I assume to be 18 at best, kept looking over at me from the window seat, smiling all the while. I was suddenly happy to have the isle seat with an easy escape route should it come to that.
Halfway through my Entertainment Weekly magazine the father and daughter decide to switch seats. The young girl immediately started talking to me complete with southern drawl. I’m a sucker for most accents, actually for most foreign accents, but there’s also a special place in my heart for southern. Unfortunately this dialect gave me a huge Jerry Springer vibe. I was pleasantly surprised when I asked what they were doing in LA. They were in fact on their way to be on the Judge Judy show! I was in complete disbelief! Aside from fitting the stereotype to the T as a dynamic duo, they were the real deal! For those of you that think these things are scripted, I’m more inclined to believe at this point having talked to these two.
He was being sued for trading cars with someone. The traded car somehow ended up in flames and his original car somehow ended up back in his posession. I’m not sure if he’s being sued for the car in flames, or for stealing his own ride back without permission.
She was coming on as a surprise witness. Her story? She’s been living on her own for “a while now” meaning she moved out and bought a house with her boyfriend. She broke up with said boyfriend and moved out of her house into the neighbor’s house where she immediatley started dating him. They move back into her home soon afterwards and he ends up dumping her. She is now happily and secretly dating his best friend. I forsee this cycle of passing the girl along the friend chain continuing for sometime. She even told me her mission statement of visiting Hollywood was to “find me a cute boy or take home JOhnny Depp.” I think I heard “find me a cute boy” about 49 times before I put on my earphones and started concentrating on going into a deep meditation hoping the plane would either land or explode before she more bodly tried to get me into her role of “cute boy.” Yowzers.
Baggage claim was normal. Car rental was normal. Upon arrival to the Hyatt we found the Regency Club to be open and fully stocked with foods and drinks! Being 3 minutes before closing time, the hostess was more than happy to let us have full unattended access to the brie cheese, sundried tomatoes with fresh mozzarella, vegtables, crackers, muenster cheese, swiss cheese, and last but most importantly - uncharged access to the top shelf liquor! Helllo blind russians! Something about free drinks and free food makes it that much more appetizing.
Sleep quickly followed.
I’ll be in California for my cousin’s wedding this weekend. I’m pretty excited to get out to the coast again. I love it out there. After the wedding I’ll be visiting, if not camping, the Yosemite National Park. I’ll have plenty of pictures when I get back!
Have a great one everyone! If there is internet, I’ll be updating from my Lappy.
